Innovative fabric structures

The future of sports and recreation facilities

(Sponsored) Designed around creating safer, higher-quality buildings, Legacy Building Solutions delivers large, highly custom and specialty fabric structures perfectly aligning with customers’ objectives through extensive research and development. As a leading tension fabric structure manufacturer, Legacy knows the importance of a detail-oriented approach, with every aspect of the building customized for maximum efficiency.

Some of Legacy’s most complex and beautiful projects have been designed and built for the sports community. From football to tennis to swimming, Legacy’s custom-designed structures are guaranteed to meet the specific needs of players, coaches and sports facility managers.

Legacy’s custom fabric building benefits at a glance

  • 100% custom design down to the last detail, whatever your specs and usage requirements.
  • Rigid steel I-beam construction allows for almost any length, width, peak height or sidewall height. This sturdy framework supports loads such as HVAC, fire suppression, sound systems and sports-related accessories like scoreboards, nets and goalposts.
  • Legacy’s ExxoTec™ fabric is strong and flexible, fending off hits from errant balls or equipment.
  • Superior acoustics mean coaches and players can hear one another without having to shout.
  • Statement-making aesthetics can show off official colors, logos, or other motifs.
  • Minimal building maintenance.

Eric Donnay, vice president of sales and marketing at Legacy, plays a key role in driving the company’s mission to provide innovative fabric structures tailored to the needs of sports and recreation facilities.

According to Donnay, Legacy offers acoustic advantages, ultimately enhancing the sports experience. The flexible nature of the fabric minimizes sound reverberation, resulting in crisp and clear acoustics throughout the structure. This quality ensures that athletes can hear coaches, teammates and referees without being overwhelmed by excessive noise. Plus, spectators can enjoy events without auditory distortion.

“Fabric buildings are an excellent choice for helping to reduce sound reverberation since the fabric’s properties absorb sound as opposed to steel or brick, which allows the noise to bounce back,” Donnay said.

Legacy’s buildings also improve energy efficiency and sustainability.

“Legacy’s hybrid structures that are cladded in PVC fabric offer many benefits in energy efficiency and sustainability because the fabric is extremely airtight,” Donnay said. “We had a third-party, independent company conduct an airtight study and the results were impressive — Our structure was 157% more airtight than a traditional metal cladded building. This reduces energy costs and a business’s carbon footprint.”

Legacy’s fabric buildings are also easier to maintain when compared to traditional structures. Because Legacy’s ExxoTec™ fabric is strong and flexible, the structure can take impacts caused by athletics and sporting equipment. Also, due to the smooth surface of PVC fabric, dirt and grime will not adhere easily, keeping the building looking clean and bright for  years, according to Donnay.

Customization is Legacy’s specialty — offering extensive options to meet the specific requirements of sports and recreation facilities. The ExxoTec™ fabric cladding is available in standard colors such as white, navy blue, green, tan and gray, with options for custom colors. The building can also be customized with designs, logos and wording to reflect team branding or sponsorships.

“Since Legacy utilizes I-beam frames for our buildings, the interior finishes are almost endless,” Donnay said. “Most of our athletic buildings have an interior PVC liner due to its benefits, but we have several sports facilities that have other wall cladding options along with integrating mezzanines, locker rooms, press boxes and office spaces  in the buildings.”

No matter what you call it — an arena, stadium, sports complex, or field house — Legacy’s  buildings offer the most adaptable solution for any sports venue. By providing shelter from the elements, athletes can train longer, leagues can host more games and recreational users can enjoy year-round activities.

“Legacy is your sole source for the building envelope,” Donnay said. “We help our clients with the design through the installation of the building. We take care of the engineering, fabrication, delivery and installation of the building, along with working closely with the general contractors to provide a great building for our clients.”
